Opera VPN background NetBIOS traffic

Opera's VPN tries to send NetBIOS traffic on UDP port 137 by relaying it through the "System" application.
(
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
)On some Windows platforms this triggers constant firewall alerts because NetBIOS traffic outside the LAN is not allowed by default. I have two questions for the developers:
-
Is it really necessary for the Opera VPN to send NetBIOS traffic?
-
Is it really necessary for Opera to use the OS kernel as proxy (which makes application control more difficult)
