Install the Reader View extension.

Activate Reader View on the page you wish to save.

Toggle Images "Off" from the Reader View icon at the left of the page.

Saving as PDF may not capture the whole page, so save as HTML by clicking the Reader View icon at the left of the page.

Open the saved HTML in Opera, and then save as PDF.

No, using opera 46.0 on openSUSE Leap-42.3_x86_64 Opera 46.0 is default from repos (I guess? Did not seek any update but 'pushed' security, etc. updates since basic install. In any event, the 'save as pdf feature in opera is really helpful, except sometimes (more than others) when save to pdf all lot of pictures from website articles are saved as part of the file. Obviously, I don't want to print this. Oh well, will let it go for now; look for solution down the road. Again, thanks for your advice. Take Care.
Saving a page as pdf was introduced on opera 50. However, you can still "print" the page as pdf and keep it.
I do not know if you can set it to not "print" the images.
