Make sure first you go to Settings (Alt P), and click with the Mouse outside the Search box.

On tabs, it's not the same as Opera 12, but I'm still not sure what you are trying to do with tabs that you can't. You can move the tabs, by dragging them on the tab bar to the position that you want. You can also drag a tab to the Speed Dial, or from the Speed Dial to the Personal Bookmarks Bar. You can right click on a tab and delete it. You can add a tab by clicking on the plus button on the tab bar. Or clone a tab, pin a tab. You can also open a link in a new tab by middle clicking (or shift middle-clicking), or control left clicking (or control shift left clicking)with the mouse. Control W still closes a tab. Control Shift T opens a new one, control shift T opens a closed tab.
