I retrograded from Opera 60 to 58 (actually: 58.0.3135.132) because of unpleasant bugs. As Opera wanted to update again, I deleted the appropriate opera_autoupdate.exe task and disabled the update task in the Windows task scheduler. When I open the "about" page of Opera, it says that the verification of updates is disabled.
However, every time I launch Opera, a popup opens up asking me if I want to upgrade now, and I have to click "No".
Is there a way to prevent this popup from occurring?

Thanks!

Ahhhh. I had done that too and not found anything, but checked again before responding to your email. I then noticed what had escaped me before: a folder named "CProgram FilesOpera". I renamed it, and lo and behold, the popup didn't show up anymore. I guess I was looking for files or folders starting with the name "Opera" which wasn't the case here.

Thanks for your help!

As I continued looking around, I found a file named opera_autoupdate in C:\Users\ME\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable, which contained one line:

[175536:176208:0514/171209.599:1402697375:INFO:protocolimpl.cc(855)] Main update resource available: true

I renamed the file and relaunched Opera - to no avail, the popup still shows.

I did now (C:\Windows\temp) - nothing which would look like an opera distribution.

Thanks, but I had already looked for it, to no avail: in the Windows download directory, in the Opera directories (the top one, and the subdirectory for this version, 58.0.3135.132_0)..

In the latter, there are files called opera.pak, opera_100_percent.pak, etc. - I deleted them, but it didn't make a difference (so I restored them).
