Win 10, up to date.
The regular install fails immediately, quites after about 6 retries.
The update within the browser fails:
Version:58.0.3135.68
Failed to download update

I also downloaded the Dev i(ver 60.x) nstaller & it behaved in the same way, retries ~6 times, then quit with a failure to download notice.

Offline download is OK, but sasurely this issue should be fixed by now. Home user, nothing speical about firewall rules etc.

Is this the "check for update" function, or is this a manual download/install?

My automatic update hasn't worked since... at least 53, maybe more.
But I have no issue manually downloading and installing new versions.

I was indeed talking about the "check for update" function.
The manual download/install always worked for me, even when the the automatic update would fail; same as you. I can't precise when this started for me, but it started a few versions back.
Anyway, I had no problems updating from the Menu > Update & Recovery > Check for update, after I temporarily disabled "Scan Encrypted Connections" in my AV.

Where did the edit button go? I tried to edit my post to say 46 but couldn't find the button, so I had to create an entirely new comment.

EDIT
Apparently, I can edit some posts but not others.

I think there's an edit button only for 1 hour (maybe less) after you post...

Thanks. I checked my AV and didn't see a similar setting but will investigate as it's surely only semantics, I have also moved my firewall functions off the PC and back to my edge router which will provide a more sophisticated implementation and better logging. I'm still waiting on a new Dev update so that I can test if it's now working, it's been a while (sigh!).

This time I remembered my AV sometimes caused issues with encrypted connections; I disabled the "Scan encrypted connections" in my AV, checked again for updates in Opera, and this time it worked fine. After installing the update, I enabled the encrypted connection's scan in my AV again...
'hope this helps...
