I would like to suggest that Opera introduces a master password for its stored passwords, different from the computer login password. In my case I would make this a very strong password or phrase. It will seldom be required.

From reading the discussion on this and related questions the argument seems to be that I should ensure that my personal computer is well protected with a secure password. However I share links to this windows computer frequently, and I use the same password on a number of machines (all using windows) and up to now it has suited me to use a relatively simple and unchanging password. I further encrypt very sensitive data on the computer itself.

Another solution, that I have not looked into, would be to use a cloud-based service to store passwords. I do not trust such services and where I am internet speeds can sometimes become very slow.

I got quite a fright when I saw all my passwords, some extremely sensitive, exposed using just my simple PC password. In the short term I shall be having to switch off this function for all the services protected by such passwords. This is rather inconvenient.

It's simple to use. It's free. It's very secure.

And if your personal folder is not encrypted, getting your Opera's profile (with your passwords) is really easy (e.g. : booting with a Live Distro when you have a physical access to a computer).
