Re: VPN does not hide my location

I tried a new test and it works just fine.

I turned on my Opera VPN and then I opened up Ublock Origan Extension and activated
Prevent WebRTC from leaking local IP addresses.

So then I went to Whats is my IP Address and it did Not show my ISP or my location, but instead it said my ISP was Opera Mini Proxy and it showed me the location in Europe somewhere, So I looked into the IP and it shows me Services: Network sharing device or Proxy Server Type Wireless Broadband with Static IP Assignment. Therefore, it tells me I'm connected to Opera VPN via my Computer, and that WebRTC is not leaking my IP of my Real location.

Hope this info helps

Whether any other things like OS geolocation (native or enabled in the browser) or stored browser cookies can be used by a site to infer one's location is unrelated to the VPN operation. In other words, it's a VPN issue only if using it is allowing your IP address to leak through... the other locator elements are unrelated to the VPN. Hence, this is why I keep asking which IP address (yours or the VPN's) is appearing in the ipleak tests, particularly when your location is not being fully masked.

If something besides the IP address is leaking your true (or nearby) location, it's not the VPN; and you then have to track down and kill it at the source, whether leakage by WebRTC or cookies or whatever else a website's Javascript might be able to snoop off your machine.

If you try https://ipleak.net/ without your VPN enabled, you should get your own IP address.
If you've changed nothing at your end, it's possible that something temporarily malfunctioned in either your Opera installation or Opera's VPN server which caused the traffic to not route properly thru the VPN. If you were in a censored country, it might also be possible that there was some man-in-the-middle interception going on by the ISP or national firewall, but that certainly isn't likely to be the case at a location in the Lone Star State.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd bookmark one or several of the leakage-test sites and retest with the VPN from time to time to see if the problem recurs (and if so, with what periodicity).
