After 1803 and 1809 windows update opera dont load web pages

  • Create a new user account on Windows (just for testing) and try Opera there to see how it works.

  • @wrangler11 After ya did a reset tcp/ip..ya may need to config your connections again to connect to internet..

i dunno if this will help..

    if you're use 'n wireless..
make sure this service - WLAN AutoConfig - is run 'n & set to Automatic..

  • @wrangler11 i wanna add this also..

the reason i mention "WLAN autoconfig" is cos ya said when ya go back to before - 1803/1809 build opera works fine again..

ok - so this Note from Microsoft - We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating..

The Windows Service called "WLAN autoconfig", and its description
says that it runs the - "WLAN Service" = which sets up the LAN connections..

Apparently, this service looks for the folder - C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc

i think this address must be hard-coded coz

    (a) it is not n e where in the registry, and please - note (B) esp..

    (B) if you simply move it, all wireless LAN functions stop completely !

so when ya move back to the 1809 it perhaps moves - the Wlansvc folder or maybe it gets deleted.. and or the service - "WLAN autoconfig" - gets disabled.. or sum other services could get disabled sum how.. ya could check sum

Note - everyone should back this folder up C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc for safe keep 'n *seriously..

ya said new profile doesn't help. so try burnout426 suggestion too..

  • i m not in wireless but wired (Ethernet).I tried already (post above) the "new user account" solution with no results.Just checked that WLAN autoconfig running on my system-automatic (mind that edge browser run fine)

  • @wrangler11 said in After 1803 and 1809 windows update opera dont load web pages:

    .I did a clean install of 1809

As in, you went to, downloaded the tool. created installation media (USB Flash drive for example) for Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (or whatever you have), restarted your computer, booted from the USB stick and installed Windows fresh (no upgrade etc.)?

If not, I'd do that. If so, I'd recreate the installation media and try once more just for good measure.

  • @wrangler11 I didn't see edge browser.. sorry

looks like the win updates may be the culprit..

can ya see if ping work.. Launch a command prompt and type ping or what ever ya wanna

You should get the return pings within a short period..

dont worry if ya already started burnouts last suggestion..

  • Pinging [] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from bytes=32 time=39ms TTL=56
    Reply from bytes=32 time=39ms TTL=56
    Reply from bytes=32 time=39ms TTL=56
    Reply from bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=56

    Ping statistics for

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 39ms, Maximum = 40ms, Average = 39ms

yes i formated my c drive (no old windows) and run windows 10 instalation from usb drive..about 5 times already
I tried firefox portable and runs fine also...weird

  • It sounds like it's a Windows bug that affects Chromium browsers. But, even though Firefox and Edge work, are you able to try the computer hooked to a different network (someone else's house) or at least to a modem directly (without a router if possible) to see if anything changes?

  • i also joined different network..same ,sure is windows "thing"

  • Thats it..after 15 plus years on opera browser i am switching to firefox cause the above (without solution) problem.Firefox runs without problems like Edge...good luck.

  • If you still want to test on the side:

There's opera://flags/#network-service-in-process. I don't know what it does specifically beside what the description says, but you could give it a shot to see if it makes any difference.

Also, maybe testing the connection with Wireshark might reveal how far Opera gets, which then might lead to cause.

  • Also see opera://flags/#enable-network-logging-to-file to create a log. As said there you can import it into opera://net-internals to analyze it.

  • Maybe try disabling TLS3 with opera://flags/#tls13-variant. Maybe disable chrome://flags/#enable-quic.

  • First of all: Please excuse me horrible english in this following reply:
I have exactly the same issue on a new computer (very common hardware-components) with a freshly installed windows 10 with build 1803 on it after all the updates. Opera (my standard browser since many years) crashes after a few seconds, chrome and vivaldi do not open a single page, while edge and firefox work flawless! This Thread has more than 1k views after a few days. I think, this shows the impact of the problem---but I could not find any response on the net (neither from microsoft nor from the other browser-companies). I tried all possible workarounds, I could find beside reinstalling windows 10...... I hope, there will be a solution soon!!

  • @wrangler11
I have exactly the same problem; any browser other than Edge either takes up to 5 minutes to load anything, or cannot load pages at all. Opera Turbo is off, as is VPN, ad-blocking etc. On Windows Pro 64 bit, build: 17134.rs4_release 18041-1804.

  • None of the solutions worked?

  • I'm searching through to see if I can find anything new that wasn't already tried. Most of them say to do above, which works for most, but not all. When it doesn't work, nothing seems to work.

  • I did see some other solutions where users had VPNs and didn't know it. Look for Surfeasy/TAP/Cisco stuff under "Network Adapters" in the device manager. Maybe "show hidden devices" in the Device Manager for good measure. Removing those solved it. Another one was "Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway" that was causing the problem.

Wouldn't help with a fresh Windows install though as those wouldn't be installed, unless one installed some driver for one of their devices from disk or the net and that installation installed one of those also.

  • If you open Edge and leave it open, does Opera work then?

Wondering if the 32-bit version of Opera works any differently.

Wondering if right-clicking launcher.exe and the latest opera.exe and changing the compatibility makes any difference.

Wondering if uninstalling and reinstalling all network adapter drivers fixes things.

Wondering if messing with the default browser settings has any effect. For example, set Edge back to the default and then set Opera to the default. Would be weird if this helped, but I'd try it.

Wonder if purposely installing a VPN program, using it and then uninstalling it might somehow fix the problem.

  • wrangler11 i went back and re-read your very 1st post..

@wrangler11 said in After 1803 and 1809 windows update opera dont load web pages:

this part you said (and I have turbo off and automatic proxy address on without vpn services on.)
do ya mean this.. if not nevermind the rest..

    when ya go here..

r u typing in the public proxy addresses manually..

Are ya use 'n public proxy addresses.. if so

sum work for a bit but mostly they work only for a very short time..

thats why in your 3rd post

@wrangler11 said in After 1803 and 1809 windows update opera dont load web pages:

opera version is 56.0.3051.36 (latest).I don't have any 3rd party anti virus just clean install windows 10 pro to find out why is that problem persists.I tried without any firewall or defender on luck.Sometimes opera can load pages for a few minutes then struggles to open them and stops.

this part you said (Sometimes opera can load pages for a few minutes then struggles to open them and stops)

    maybe try different proxies
