How do you completely remove this annoying and unnecessary sidebar? I do not like it, it disrupts my use a lot and I do not want to have it on my desktop.

How to remove this garbage?

You can only unpin it to remove it from most webpages except for internal pages. Unless you're constanlty looking at the internal pages, you should not be bothered by the sidebar as long as it's unpinned. I currently have it unpinned myself and it has never showed up while surfing.
