Well, Opera, this is really, really annoying.

Aw, c'mon, man! Auto-update MUST NOT update my "extensions, ad-block lists and so on" since i'm not using Opera's ad-blocker.
Every extension i use has its own auto-update. ...

So how does that matter? Auto-update in software makes updates to files that, in turn, are used as references by function modules within the browser, whether you are "using" those browser functions or not. It's the same in Windows and AV programs and virtually all auto-updating software on your system: files are updated to keep the program current, whether or not a user has selected to use certain features. So, for example, an ad-block "block list" will get updated for the browser whether the user enables its usage or not.

I must admit that I do not fully understand how that Auto-update is functioning:

Does it compare my Speed dial entries with an online list maybe several times a day, even if the core application itself is up to date (my version is 54.0.2952.41, update stream: Stable), and on this basis default speed dial entries may be re-added?

As I wrote: Opera was idle, not in use, when booking.com was added. Opera was NOT just started. And it was NOT updated just before.

So what makes me extremely worried is that I don't know what exactly triggered this addition. Who or what reviewed my speed dial entries, concluding that booking.com would have to be re-added?

And how often does this interaction of data between my speed dials and the speed dials someone thinks I should have occur?

I would think Opera would have someone dedicated to responding to these things or other issues/complaints in a direct manner if public relations and retaining users means something. Opera could hire me if they wanted to for these sorts of things. I like the browser on Windows very much, and would be willing to help Opera and its users come to a meeting point where confusion or disappointment could be alleviated or explained in an honest and understanding manner.
