<![CDATA[Referrers concern and questions]]>Ok, can someone tell me how do referrers work in Opera (or in modern browsers in general) these days? I know the basics that referrers can be "read" on webpage close or webpage opening, so, technically webpages can spy on you as you browse between them, learning your (limited) browsing history. For example, if you go from opera.com to mozilla.org, Opera webpage will know that you left to Mozilla webpage and Mozilla webpage will know that you arrived from Opera webpage.

My question here is, is referrer kept between tabs? If I have opera.com opened in one tab and I open a new empty tab, does this new tab have access to referrer from opera.com or are referrers confined to individual tabs only?

The second (or third) question is, if I use "NoRef" extension and I use the option "Block only 3rd party by default", does this mean referrer will remain contained within single domain, so if I browse within opera.com, referrer will be shared within that domain, but as soon as I'd leave to mozilla.org, it would clear the referrer. And when I'll be on mozilla.org, it will share referrers within that domain, but nothing from opera.com will be cross referenced (and vice versa). Am I understanding this right?

It's only sending referrer if link is clicked on the old page and you're transfered to new domain. With NoRef extension, even that is blocked if you set it to block only 3rd party ones.

No. There will be no referrer sent. Also, if you enter a new URL in the address field of an existing tab, no referrer will be sent.
