Fortunately the hard drive didn't die. So I set up my new laptop and searched for ways to 're-import' my bookmarks on Opera. There are some reasonable results but in the main they are difficult and/or don't work. I found a 'work around' and it's so easy!
1st install Opera on the new machine.
2nd UNHIDE your folders or you won't find the Appdata folder.
3rd Locate the Appdata folder, on your external HDD, it should be in
Users(name of user)\Appdata (if you have UNHIDDEN files.
4th now select Roaming and in there you SHOULD find the folder 'Opera software' .
5th Highlight and COPY
6th Find 'Appadata' on your C drive (same location as on your old hard drive)
7th open 'Roaming'
8th Paste old 'Opera software' into 'roaming' on your C drive.
9th REBOOT

Now open Opera and hey bingo all the bookmarks are restored!

Hope this helps someone

cheers
Pete
