Auto search engine capturing and Tab to Search (like Chrome)

  • i just started using Opera and i love it , compared to Chrome its amazing but there are two features that i used a lot in Chrome and i would really like to see in Opera which are auto search engine capturing and tab to search, these are the only features that stops me from deleting Chrome completely and getting rid of it forever

I know that theres something similar to Tab to Search in Opera with the manually configured keystrokes but honestly it doesnt feel as fast and its annoying to manually configure everything , while chrome does it automatically while i use it

if Opera had these two features implemented that would be amazing , Chrome could become a history for me

  • @tehu What do those features do or should do?

I just tried Chrome here and Tab doesn't seem to search anything, it just goes through link and menus like in Opera. And I have no idea of what 'auto search engine capture' would be.

  • @leocg Hi, I have been looking for something search engine related too, so let me weigh in here.
In Chrome, when you visit a search engine that is not yet listed as one of the available search engines in the browser, Chrome will add it to the list and you can even choose to use it as the default SE.

To be exact, I would like the SE https://Searx.me/ added, and I did add it manually, however it won't search anything from the address bar, it will just direct me to the home page. Maybe I did something wrong, but I can't find out what.

Anyway, adding the feature would not only solve my problem, but make it easier for everyone.

  • @illusive87 Being possible to use any search engine as the default one is a long time request. Due to security reasons, it hasn't been implemented so far.

    What security reasons?

  • @concretable Malwares adding themselves as the default search engines, for example. Or modifying your settings.
