How to create a new user profile so that two persons could use his own profile of the browser?

Hi there,

Please help me. I want to create a new user profile on one computer so that two different persons could use his own profile of the browser (his own bookmarks, extensions, etc.).

So that there would be two Opera shortcuts on the home screen/ desktop (for example, Opera 1, Opera 2 for each profile)?

If there is no such an opportunity, please let me know either.

@node Opera doesn't support profiles.

To use different profiles in Opera you change the OS user or you install instances of Opera using the usb/portable option.

You can avoid double disc space and network traffic following the Test profile from the signature and reading the "comments" steps .

You can use the method on StandAlone installs too.

In case you have Opera installed, remember to use IE or Edge - or any other - as default browser or any url will be opened on a "orphan" profile.

The correct way to do this is to install Opera to "C:\Program Files\Opera" with the "All Users" "install for" option in the installer and set Opera has the default browser. Then in Windows, create a "standard user" user account for each extra person that will be using the computer. Then, have each person log into their own Windows user account and they'll get their own settings for everything, including Opera, and Opera will be the default for its file and protocol associations (you might have to set Opera as the default on each user account).

If you insist on using only one user account on Windows, download the Opera installer, launch it, click "options", set "install path" "C:\Users\thewindowsusername\My Program Files\Opera 1" (or user whatever name you want instead of "Opera 1"), set "install for" to "Standalone installation". Then, create a shortcut to "C:\Users\thewindowsuername\My Program Files\Opera 1\launcher.exe" and place it on your desktop or start menu or pin that Opera to the taskbar etc. Repeat the steps with a different Opera folder name for each additional user.

The downside to doing it that way though is neither of them will be set as the default browser, so you will have to decide how you want to handle that situation.

Another option is to just create new shortcuts to Opera's "C:\Program Files\Opera\launcher.exe" with commands like:

"C:\Program Files\Opera\launcher.exe" "--user-data-dir=C:\Users\thewindowsusername\Opera Profiles\profile 1"

for example.

Again though, when launching a file or protocol that's associated with Opera, the regular Opera profile will be used unless you modify the Windows registry. So again, you'll have to decide how you want to handle that situation.
