system tray URL defaults after installing Opera

Before installing Opera, if I were to click on "go to google photos" (GP) in the system tray, Windows 10 would open Google Photos in Chrome. After installing Opera, GP opens in Opera (not what I want). After uninstalling Opera, GP opens in IE, even after setting Chrome as the default browser app, and setting all file extensions to use Chrome. There appears to be no way whatsoever of getting GP to open in Chrome. None! I've even tried un & re-installing Chrome. But clearly, somehow, installing Opera somehow effected a change to cause the GP system tray icon to open in Opera. I assume this must have been a registry setting? In Windows 10 default app settings, for the .url extension, the only option is "Internet Browser". If I click a .url I created in the filesystem, it opens GP in Chrome. But in the system tray GP icon, it always opens in IE. Could anyone advise what Opera did to cause the GP system icon to always open in Opera? Then maybe I can do the same and point it to Chrome! Yikes.

@robibby
Maybe you've missed to add the .url protocol too?
