Secondly, half the time when I check for update, it says "Component Out of Date" and it won't actually update...

Here it is 1.4.8.1029 and I don't get that 'out of date' message.

Try the folowing:

  1. Close Opera
  2. Go to Opera's profile directory
  3. Enter the Widevinecdm folder
  4. Remove/rename the folder with the version number
  5. Start Opera
  6. Go to opera://components/
  7. Update the component
