IS VPN with problem now?

  • @rudrick @blackbird71 oh well, even if they won't implement a VPN.. I think the VPN extension i am using is fairly decent and a good solution.
Yes, that'd be great if they'd open source the tab stacking 🙂

  • It's some months since I asked... They didn't comment 😃

Yes that VPN Ext you pointed out is fast compared to many others.

  • @acidinmyfridge I pay nothing for HOXX and IP leak stopper. It all works fine in the SEEMLESS addon world of Firefox.

No one should even bother using Opera until the VPN is fixed because Firefox is just as "community" and "open". Opera has no obligation to be used. People should stop being hung up on Opera. All browsers are tools for us to use, and if the tool doesn't work, put it down and use something else.
I use whatever web browser works best for what I'm doing; so that's about 90% Firefox with or without VPN on (because I'm not paranoid), and about 10% MS IE. Oh my, am I a devil for using MS IE? No, what's the big deal? I just prefer Firefox most of the time. Opera was a toy I tried for a while and it's just not good enough at the moment. I don't generally need to switch ON a VPN because I'm not a criminal and I'm not important enough to be snooped on.

  • For reference today:
37Mbps Sky fibre paid for into house produces, using speedtest.net-

    37.67Mbps on Firefox VPN OFF
37.64Mbps on Firefox HOXX VPN ON to UK server

    37.7Mbps on Opera VPN OFF
1.67Mbps on Opera VPN ON to optimum <<<<<<<<<<<<< pathetic

    That's 1 decimal 67, 1.67. Hopeless.

  • Hello,

My Opera ver. 50.0 can't connect to VPN from a couple of days. Earlier everything worked OK. Now the connecting lasts forever. Could you fix it please?

    Peter

the VAST majority of us ARE NOT paranoid nor a criminal we just want some privacy that we have a right to. your comments are rude and simple minded. please don't bother with the BS argument that if you have nothing to hide you don't need privacy, cause it is a idiots reasoning.

  • I would say that the majority of those using a VPN are doing it to access blocked content, followed most probably by those who are afraid of their government.

A (very) low percentual cares that much about privacy to the point of using a VPN, I would say.

i wouldn't call 80% of americans fighting "Their government" to protect net neutrality or to try to block the reauthorization of fisa a "low percentage"

  • @chuchkyschild What's the relation with this discussion? Do they all use a VPN and/or cares about privacy?

  • @chuchkyschild My comments are not rude nor simple minded, and personal insults do not win arguments.
I don't have BS argument and I'm not an idiot; I'm an ex-IT professional with an IQ140. You have an overinflated fear of loss of privacy, and in any event if you really fear a loss of privacy you'd avoid the internet completely. No body has a right to privacy, you only have the rights given to you by your country of residence's government laws. If you don't understand that then your ignorant of the need of a modern, open, liberal, peaceful but lawfully run democracy. I note you have child in your handle, and that certainly sums up your state of mind.
It is simple minded to think you have a right to full privacy. Your reasoning lacks maturity and big picture awareness. Look at the whole board, not just one square.

@chuchkyschild Net neutrality is a different subject to privacy. Stick to the point. Furthermore, provide the valid source of your 80% statistic.

@flyboy may i ask about HOXX: is it unlimited bandwith and free if not: how is the pricing?

    Free

  • Well well well !
    It's important to be honest.

As I live and breath, I have just installed tonight's update. 14th Jan 2018 at 00:39 GMT/UTC in London, UK, version 50.0.2762.58.
Looks like they've fixed it. About time.
    37.31Mbps on a 37Mbps incoming fibre line.

Let's hope they don't put us through that again...

  • Is VPN really working now?

  • FF Quantum is super fast.

    When is Reborn fastness coming?

Sure under the hood much happens - but what did last year brought? Reborn Snap! ...
And unmerged non-finished Reborn Sidebar with monetized access 1. to the sidebar + 2. web panels.
    Huh...

DON'T cherry pick from what i posted, cause i also said fisa which is all about invading our privacy.

your comments were an are rude. you need to stay off line since you don't know what you're talking about cause we do have the right to privacy.

  • Well, since some people here seem to not be able to behave like an adult, all the off-topic discussion in this topic ends right now.

So from this point the topic goes back to be a point to report and discuss exclusively about issues with the VPN, meaning it not working.

  • Hi since I upgraded to Opera 50, the VPN service is not working, it doesn´t connect to any IP.

In the previous version of Opera (v.49.0) the VPN worked correctly but in this new version not work.

Could you fix this error please?

You must be the lucky one. I am on a 78Mb/s Zen Fibre with d/l of 77.4Mb/s with VPN off and between 0.5 and 3Mb/s with optimum VPN on. Also running same version as you. Definately not fixed.
