Opera Browser in a Virtual Environment Issues

I created a layer of Opera browser using Unidesk. I configured Opera with the following: sidebar hidden, auto-update disable, and not to be the default browser. When the layer was built I applied it to virtual desktops. Uses complained the their default browser becomes Opera and not IE. I also noticed that the sidebar appeared. How did this happen? Is there a way to disable the sidebar? Is there a way to not to make Opera the default browser?
Thank you. -

The sidebar can be hidden (by the user) by that button at the bottom of the sidebar, or in Settings. If any of the messenger/chat apps are configured, receiving content will trigger the sidebar to show so that the user knows there is content to see. I don't use them, and my sidebar stays hidden (though even when hidden it does show in the start page and other internal pages).
Not certain about the default browser. I have not seen that issue.
