I just installed the latest version of Opera for Mac and it immediately took over my e-mail.

Before, I could send a Word or PDF document via the Share drop-down or right-clicking. Now, the e-mail option doesn’t even appear though sending the document via Messages and other services are available.

Before Opera, I could send a web page from the Chrome browser by hitting CMD+SHIFT+I and it created an e-mail in Mail with the link to the page. Now, CMD+SHIFT+I gives a message asking permission for Opera to access my addresses. I allowed it, then got another message to set up an account in Opera. I did that, then saw that Opera wanted to send my e-mail via Opera instead of my choice, Mail.

How can I prevent Opera from imposing itself on my e-mail? I cannot find a preference or setting to turn off. I want to use Mail and only Mail. MacBook Pro 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 (Retina, 15-inch, late 2013), OS X El Capitan v 10.11.3. Thank you.

Spoken too soon. Changing the Preference in Mail only sticks until I close Mail. The, when I open the application again, it's back to Opera. I just tried CMD +SHIFT + I again from this page. It took me to the Opera browser. The url was: mailto:?subject=Fwd:%20Opera%20has%20taken%20over%20my%20e-mail!%20-%20Opera%20Forums&body=%0A%0Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fforums.opera.com%2Fdiscussion%2F1886118%2Fopera-has-taken-over-my-e-mail%23Item_3

I see it starts with "mailto" so I assume that's how Opera sends mail. This is so frustrating. I want to use Opera because of the VPN but the e-mail thing is a serious problem.

But I get a window in the Opera browser that has settings to send an e-mail. Evidently, when I installed Opera, it changed my default e-mail client to Opera. I most certainly didn't set anything to do that. But . . . it's resolved now. I went into Mail and changed the setting back to using Mail as my default. I had been looking all over Opera for a setting to change, and there was what I wanted, waiting patiently for me right there in Mail.
