I am trying to import bookmarks & passwords from my existing (working) instance of Opera 12.18 to a brand new installation of Opera 47. They were not imported during the installation process.

Reading forums, I was under impression that "Opera 12.x" item would appear in the "Import bookmarks and settings" section. Unfortunately, it is not the case:

I tried reinstalling Opera 12.8 in the default directory as well as installing the x86 version - no luck.

Later, I read that launching the new Opera with the following commandline would perform the import:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera Stable\launcher.exe" --with-feature:import-presto-profile --presto-small-prefs-dir="C:\Users\Michał\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\"

...no success, either. I am starting to suspect that this feature might have been removed? When I type in:

opera://flags/#import-presto-profile

it is not there:

However, "password import and export" flag is enabled:

Any idea what's happening?

PS. Just in case - my Opera 12.18 paths:

There never was such option. Opera Chromium used to import settings from Opera Presto automatically, don't know if it's still the case.

You were completely wrong! I tried installing older versions of the new Opera and it turns out that most of them support importing Opera 12.x profile - from within the "Import bookmarks and settings" as well as upon the first launch.

Here's the proof:

So, what I eventually did, was installing Opera_41.0.2353.69 (which imports Opera 12.x profile automatically), and then perform auto-update to the current stable version. All passwords and all bookmarks got imported. Brilliant!

I'm more concerned about passwords - bookmarks can be imported via HTML.

Also, was Opera 12.18 your default browser?
If not, that might also be why the data was not imported.

Did you install Opera 47 as a standalone (USB) installation?
IIRC it does not import data if you install it like that.

No. However, I used offline installer - the file was named
Opera_47.0.2631.71_Setup.exe
and installed into
c:\Program Files (x86)\Opera Stable
. I can try the regular/online installer -
OperaSetup.exe
, but I doubt it'll help...

That's exactly my point - this automatic import gets mentioned in this forum a few times, but I guess it's been removed... sigh.

For bookmarks you should be able to export them as html in Presto and then import im Opera Chromium.

For passwords, I can easily export old Opera's
wand.dat
to plain text. I guess I need to find a standalone tool that can inject them into Chromium's
Login Data
file...
