<![CDATA[Speed dial thumbnails]]>No need to tell that Opera's speed dial is the best.

The automatic generation of thumbnails based on the address of the webpage works great.

Sometimes it doesn't make sense though, for forums etc

It would be nice if Opera could generate additional thumbnails based on the name of the speed dial.

  • Install TamperMonkey
  • Install the Script from the above PasteBin link.
  • Create new Script - TM Dashboard -
    • Paste the Script code.
  • Edit the Script
    • Add the Image URL
    • Save it

The image will appear at the bottom and then, on the Thumbnails selector - It can be Zoomed -.

  • Repeat the Edit/Add Image URL/Save process for each site.

As read somewhere,
Sync would reset the images on another device, so save the BookmarksExtras file and C/P it if needed.

I totally agree and even suggest a better solution:

Adding custom pictures (thumbnails) for each speed dial.
Either upload a picture from your local computer or add an URL to the desired picture.

Visit the page, and click on the ❤ in the address field. In the pop-ups you'll see the current thumbnail along with arrows next to it to cycle through the available options: a thumbnail preview or various images shown on the page.

In my org we have several subdomains for different services, and since the main domain is always the same all the thumbs look alike each other! Having a site preview or a custom image (but I'd go for the first option) would be much better!

I use a script on violentmonkey that adds the image I need on the webpage.

Then when you save the speed dial, opera finds it and you can select it.

In Opera 12 there was an addon for this, but now there is no way to change the speed dial images.

Or does someone know a temporary workaround?
