<p dir="auto">The language is Russian.....it appears Opera has chosen the site for me...How???  and How do I set the email acc't (in English) I want to appear?</p>

You can click on the Manage handlers button to clear just the mailto handler (or other handlers, if there are any), and you can also click on a radio button to prevent Opera from accepting any websites as (protocol) handlers.</p>

Apparently you visited a Yandex site and they told Opera they provide email service. In Settings it should be possible to clear this setting.</p>
