google throws up some options:

I am back on version 42 and have disabled auto updates by renaming the autoupdate executable in the opera folder in program files. Will wait for the next version to see if they have fixed it

I just proved it by going back to version 35 - all ok, then it updated to version 42 - still OK then updated again to 46 and the problem came back.

how do you install previous versions of opera? please say, i can't work with this browser with its horrible fonts 😞

I noticed it on a couple of news sites that I read everyday. Try the Guardian and you should see that the font's resolution is terrible: https://www.theguardian.com/uk

Last updates uglyfied fonts in opera - they seem rough, not antialised, all steppy-pixelish. This really distracts! Win 10 PRO x64, problem occurs everywhere and in chrome fonts are beautiful. I was Tested these Site With Opera 45 and FireFox 54 and Chrome 59 Every Thing was Exellent but These Website has problem Only and only With Opera 46

Windows ... is hardware acceleration enabled in Settings? You might try turning it off; on some systems it has been reported to lead to text that is lighter and harder to read.
