I'm back now (I revisit every year) and I still don't get why the sidebar has no option to relocate to the right.

I prefer it on the right as it does not interfere with the main page placement when I open and close it. Am I Mad? Alone?

Its annoying to have to open a bookmarks page (default), the toolbar that eats up valuable vertical realestate, or a really good flyout (bookmarks by the side) that can only be on the left.

Bookmarks by the side is exactly how I dream the sidebar should work. Just have the option to pop it on the RHS and to fly out as a panel (not a whole page) that has the option to be integrated in the window or an overlay.
