I think Chrome and Opera are gonna do "the Vivaldi!" so to say. Vivaldi has been a major success showing how to build a new generation browser. Google is doing heavy experimenting with GUI. Opera is transitioning to Reborn.

Of course browsers need to be progressive web apps as well 🙂 😉

Disappointed in the responses to the "Multiple User Profiles (like in Chrome)" question. I am aware of the workaround, and I've set up the command-line-flag-based shortcuts for multiple profiles, and they work OK, except when you click a link in another program.

With Chrome as your default browser, if no Chrome windows are currently open, an external link will open a new tab in a new window (plus the previous session's tabs) under the most-recently-used/closed user profile. If one Chrome window/profile is open, the tab will open in that window. If multiple Chrome windows from different profiles are open, it will open the external link in a tab in the most-recently-used (focused) window of the most-recently-used (focused) user profile.

In Opera, external links are always handled by the "default" Opera profile. If that profile has no windows open, one will be opened with the previous session's tabs and a new tab. This is less than ideal.

Opera far outperforms Chrome in not freezing/stalling (especially on certain problematic websites like Trello), but multiple profiles (one or more for work and one for personal) are essential for me. The current work-around is OK, but forcing the user to copy/paste external links any time they are using the non-default browser profile is one area the workaround fails.

Why do you think it? I really don't see any reason for them to do it.

Google is doing heavy experimenting with GUI.

What would be...? Here I don't see anything that looks like an experiment in Chrome's GUI.

Oh pardon, Chromium. But Google too at some level, albeit Google is more interested of WebRTC - bleh I wish there would be a big big button to disable that once and for good.

Seriously though with the "way of Vivaldi" the outcome is a much more flexible browser than this hard coded stagnation. That in turn opens a lot new possibilities for extension magic.

Chrome/ium/Blink extensions compared to old Firefox & Opera extensions are simple, dull, gimmicky and make-believe. Chrome Extension store is a huge junkyard of plugins that moreso record browser and force users to create accounts and put they're stuff on cloud - than do any much else than data harvesting make-believe gimmickys~ brrrh.

OK SURE there is good extensions as well 🙂

Over at Opera Addons is a much more quality thing going on.

"work OK, except when you click a link in another program."

That needs to be set in registry, it's possible. I don't have a link but there is "guides" on web. I reckon Google might be helpful.

                List update - 2017. 10. 03.

In v48, two features from the list have reached the stable channel. They are removed from the list. Their stats were the following:

Screenshot tool (entire page, visible area, selected area)

                • I don't want to answer: 9
                • Not important: 86
                • Somewhat important: 105
                • Very important: 56
                • Must have: 42

Unit converter in the Search popup (similar to the currency converter)

                • I don't want to answer: 14
                • Not important: 113
                • Somewhat important: 96
                • Very important: 44
                • Must have: 30

With this list update, the following requests are being added to the list:

                • Capture full page (not just the visible area)
                • Inline translator in the search popup
                • Paste option in the search popup (in editable fields)

                  Page 3, "Page content":

                  Built-in reader mode: Via extensions
                                         As a native function

Built-in reader mode implemented via extension?

Another important thing (or perhaps I should say "a thing that actually is important") is how tab stacking is implemented, because I personally do NOT want to have it they way Vivaldi have implemented their so called "Tab stacking" (aka "tab hiding", because that what it really is). I would like to have it similar to the Opera 11/12 version. If some similar survey is made in the future perhaps this could be included.

Let's just stick to the feature itself, not the implementation for now.

I do not have a Google account and I have 3 Chrome extensions in Opera. You do not have to create an account to get those.

                          Hi,
I have suggestion. I grew up on "old opera" and I am missing old opera tab open/close behaviour.
There are some extensions, but they dont work properly.

Vivaldi has this implemented natively. So I assume this will not be a problem.

                          Example: http://oi65.tinypic.com/33wlgr6.jpg

There is a nice Opera extension called Policy Control which allows one to control permission to use camera and microphone on a per-site basis (and several other things).
