Well, Opera Presto didn't exactly have an ad-blocker but a tool to block elements in a page.

You are right,
BTW, FanBoy made a great job with the "block content" file, like Easy List now with Opera Blink.

I prefer the old Content blocker so you can have a clean page, blocking more ads and elements, just seeing the elements needed.

At the other hand,

I think current ad-blocker is far more simple and easy to use.

Yes, easy but limited, at least for now.

They fixed most of the problems with Netscape 7, but by then it was too late. I and many others had started looking elsewhere, and I came across Opera just as it was becoming a free browser. I think it was version 6, but I'm not 100% sure about that, it was a long time ago!
I stuck with Opera after that right through until they went down the Chromium route and took away all the customisation, which had been absolutely wonderful IMO. They even added insult to injury by releasing the new version without any proper bookmarking system because "research showed that no-one uses bookmarks any more". That went well!
I now still use mainly Opera 12.18, although it's becoming increasingly difficult to use with current javascript-heavy sites, and also run Opera 36 as a back-up (I'm still use Windows XP as my main OS, simply because I like it, although I do have Windows 10 on the machine as well).
My main browser is increasingly Firefox though, which I'd always had on the machine for website testing purposes, but never used seriously.

Probably around 1998, was using Netscape for a long time parallel.
When Netscape died Opera was first choice. Not sure when sync was introduced, this was a real win for Opera and me since finally my bookmarks on Office desktop and Home could be the same.
Moved to Firefox for some time since Opera had some time a real problem displaying pages properly.
Always stuck with Opera as Backup, Mainly due to the Bookmark sync and Notes.
Not sure anymore when I switch more to Opera as Main browser.
Gotten REALLY annoyed with the Chromium based version. Nothing was really working well (SYNC!!) and stuck with Version 12.xx for a long time. I guess Opera lost a lot of long time loyal users there until Chromium based Opera was somewhat up near Opear 12.xx feature wise...
When Sync with several layers deep folders was introduced I switched to current version. (How could they ever think that one would only need one layer??? Especially with thousands of bookmarks)
Still annoyed with Opera:

Old Bookmark sync did not work with the new Browser, so I duplicated a lot of bookmarks.

ALL the notes to the bookmarks (which was possible in the Bookmarks which I used as Keywords) where lost when transferring to the new browser!!! The Notes/ Keywords in the bookmarks are still desperately missing. Currently missusing the Name field in the bookmarks for that.

Still no "Notes" in Opera (as separate feature next to the Bookmarks. Also this would be great to have on the Mobile: Synced Notes!)

Speed dial and open tabs still don´t always sync right between the different machines. Some machines don`t even appear on the list! (But bookmarks sync funny enough)

I didn't have a cellphone with Internet capability till 2005~2006. Then I had a Motorola with a dial-up access to wap sites.

Then I wanted or needed to access sites not only wap but web/www.
And somewhere there was an offer: a light Java application, on a Russian site to download - with some bundles or not, an appication that could make my PHONE to access not only wap-sites, apart that its compressing capability made it feasible.
It was fun.

Opera 3.62 or thereabouts, from an online news article (one of the tech websites). Then in 2000, when I started working with Linux, the version I bought in the store (yes, back then Red Hat and Mandrake were available in certain retailers) included Opera on a supplemental disk. (The "Power Pack" edition of Mandrake 7.0 came on 7 CDs, two of which were strictly third-party software.) As Opera worked better than either Netscape or Konqueror, it quickly became my default Linux browser. Though in Windows, other software I had required IE, so until they started work on Opera 7 I was still only using Opera on Linux.
