longtab the search field will offer to add the search engine to the selection list. works with ddg and yandex, but not for startpage (runs from speed dial).

you didn't mention which opera you're referring to, most mobile versions won't allow permanent selection of user-defined search engines anymore as part of opera's sellout of user privacy to google/alphabet inc.
