Files over 15MB should be downloaded from web server directly, so it's not causing any load on our servers.

i wasn't aware of that, mucho thanks. just checked with network log, opera mini connects directly to the file source and so does uc mini. one wonders how they achieve the claimed download speed gains via my 32 kbit/s connection.

still, i'll continue to use their downloader as from past experience it seemed more resilient.

many thanks again for the clarification.

UC Mini downloads files using multiple concurrent connections which can only help if the web server is limiting download speed.

i do sometimes pull gb-sized linux or haiku images on my smartphone when free wifi is available, using uc-mini.

not wanting to put the load (with associated costs and performance demands) on opera's servers, and in the past om's download manager struggled to pull large files.

Seriously!?? Of course many people download large files.

Well, I don't do it - at least not on my phone - and I really don't know that many people who does it that often.

I really don't think that downloading 1GB files is something often done by many users.
