I would prefer to have the bookmarks 'bar' down the side. In fact displaying it in exactly the same manner that one sees when one goes to the Opera menu, hovers on Bookmarks and then on Bookmarks Bar would be ideal for me. A vertical display would be convenient and allow more height to the display page which would be useful in certain situations. There might be a toggle on the address line to switch between the two display modes for bookmarks or to switch them off entirely.
