Website Won't Play Audio Properly

  • No, the mp3 file wouldn't play correctly while using the opera browser

While trying to play that mp3 in opera, open anther tab with opera://media-internals/ then click on the entry related to the mp3 file and copy and paste the results here.

  • Hi leoc g,
On the laptop I'm typing this reply on with the audio issue I've described I couldn't capture a screen image that you requested. However I can report what information appears on that page:

    Players Tab: None
Audio Tab:Input Controllers - None, Output Controllers - None, Output Streams - None
    Video Capture Tab: None

No wonder the audio isn't playing..thanks again for ALL of your help !!
    David

  • Even though I have the 'show advanced settings' block checked, I can't see any advanced settings..why ?
    David

  • couldn't capture a screen image that you requested.

There's no need of a screen image. Just copy and paste the text here.

    Players Tab: None
Audio Tab:Input Controllers - None, Output Controllers - None, Output Streams - None
    Video Capture Tab: None

This is the only info on the page?

  • Dear leocg,
    Yes

  • If you right click on the video, do you see any mention of Flash?

  • Dear leoc g,
On this web page, http://odb.org there isn't any video..only sound. When I click on the play button it at first acts like it's going to play but then goes right back to the same play triangle.
    David

  • On this web page, http://odb.org there isn't any video

    Oops, sorry.

When trying to play this file you should see a button with the file address in opera://media-internals/. Aren't you seeing it?

And when you click on that button you should see something like:

The same should happen for http://odb.org/.

  • Hi leocg,
No, I'm not seeing anything when I click on the play button of the site in question. Also..just to let you know, I'm typing this reply using the firefox browser because when I try to access the opera forums with the opera browser I'm receiving a ' Opps something went wrong on our end ' message.
    Thanks,
    David

  • So Opera seems to not being able to play mp3 files in your computer. At least using html5.

No idea of what could be the cause.

  • Hi leocg,
I surely would hate to give up using the opera browser just because it won't play mp3 file's. Of course i truly appreciate you trying to help me..surely someone else here in the forum's has had the same issue. Coincidentally, when I use the opera browser with windows 10, the mp3 file plays correctly.
    David

  • Coincidentally, when I use the opera browser with windows 10, the mp3 file plays correctly

Opera relies on the OS to play proprietary codecs. On Windows 7,Opera should be able to play mp3 files.

    Is your Windows 7 a N version?

  • Dear leocg,
    It's Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium Edition 32-bit

  • Have you ever installed any codec pack on it?

  • Hi leocg,
Not that I'm aware of..I did install the VLC Player, but it didn't seem to help. By the way, I'm typing this reply on one of my computer's that's running Windows 10. Opera seems to function correctly while using that O.S...includind playing mp3 audio. Thanks again for all of your assistance.
    David

  • I have had to give up Opera, which I like very much, as it will not play CNN video and CNN news video. Other browsers will run CNN without a problem on my Win 7 desktop. All other features of Opera run without problems.

Any ideas for a 'work-around' for what the problem(s) are? Thanks, Harvey

  • I did install the VLC Player, but it didn't seem to help

VLC uses a npapi plugin, what stopped being supported by Chromium based browsers since a while ago.
It also doesn't install codecs on your computer and even if it was the case, there won't be any difference for Opera.

I asked about the codec pack because if you had never installed one, I would ask you to try to open the mp3 file on Media Player.

  • Hi leocg,
Just to keep you updated..I recently went to this webpage :http://www.windows7codecs.com and downloaded the software. That didn't seem to solve the audio not playing issue that I described in my original post. The audio will play however using windows media player.
    David

  • That didn't seem to solve the audio not playing issue that I described in my original post

    Yes, like I said.

The audio will play however using windows media player

You tested before or after have installed the codec pack?

  • Hi leocg,
Why is it when I use google chrome or firefox..I don't have to do anything additional when playing the audio on the page I first mentioned ?
    David
