VPN: "Authentication credentials required"?

  • I am still having this issue. When VPN is enabled I am unable to to connect to any website.

Version: 40.0.2308.62 - Opera is up to date
    Update stream: Stable
    System: Windows 10 64-bit (WoW64)

  • I am still having issue. When VPN is enabled i am unable to connect to any sites and getting : Authentication credentials required.error.

    Version: 40.0.2308.62 System: Mac OS X 10.12.0 64-bit

  • I've got the same problem with Opera dev 41.0.2349.0 on W7Pro. VPN worked fine for a long time, but now I cleared my browsing data...

    opera://settings/clearBrowserData

...with "Third party services data" checked. Directly after this the error message "Authentication credentials required." is displayed every time I try to open a website with VPN turned on.

I am pretty sure clearing "Third party services data" caused the error message "Authentication credentials required.", because I cleared my browsing data several times a day before with "Third party services data" UNchecked without having this problem.

Hope this helps to fix the bug. For the moment I am not able to use VPN anymore with my Opera dev installation 😞

  • Same problem here with the Authentication credentials ... I just figured out that I'm unable to reach surfeasy web site via Opera!!! I think the problem stars here!!! Does anyone have the same problem?? (https://support.surfeasy.com/hc/en-us)

  • The problem seems to be fixed out of nowhere. VPN in Opera dev works again for me without any update or restart since a few minutes?!

  • Hi Guys, the problem should be solved now. Could you restart Opera and check again. Please report if there are still issues with VPN.

  • i have no problem,but please add UK server,thanks

At the moment VPN works like a charm but a few hours ago it turned several times from blue to orange and back within a second.

PS: I'd like to see Austria (not to be confused with Australia) and Switzerland as virtual locations.

  • Hi kmielczarczyk,
For me the issue remains the same 😞

  • I often get this error since the "Authentication credentials required." problem:

  • In addition to my post above this slightly different error message is shown too since the "Authentication credentials required." problem:

  • Hi there,
Any news regarding the fix of the VPN issue?
It's a bit strange that with the VPN turned ON, I just can access a few sites that a normaly use.

For instance I'm not able to load my home page: https://start.duckduckgo.com
But I can load this one: http://www.sapo.pt

  • Same Issue here! Still!

    Interestingly:
40.0.2308.15 beta works like a charm WITH VPN active! the final doesn't.

  • Hi, any news??
I still can't load almost any site with the VPN turned ON :|. Plesase fix this issue.

@ dirkkramm, I've just tried 40.0.2308.52 beta and the VPN doesn't work as well. The badge its always switching between Blue & Orange!!

@ kmielczarczyk, Waiting for some feedback from you ☕

  • @ nfbelo

it worked a few days ago but looks that its now also with the beta version causing problems.

hope opera will fix it soon 😕

  • After autoupdate of latest BETA - nothing is working with VPN anymore.

OPERA WHAT ARE YOU DOING HEREIN?

  • BTW:
    Delveloper Edition 40.0.2296.0
works like a charm - even WITH VPN active!

  • Betas are just that, testing releases. Things break. No use crying about it. If you want a stable release stick with Opera Stable. That is why it is called what it is.

  • @lando242 - please read again to get a better picture:
the old betas ARE working, the latest NOT, the developer IS working and the final is NOT.
So we are crying about the FINAL one and are WONDERING about how the old betas and developer are working while the final and the latest beta is NOT.

  • See the "known issues" section of http://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/2016/10/opera-41-beta-harder-better-faster-stronger/ to unclog the VPN in the latest beta. In brief, go to clear browsing data in the preferences, and choose the "third party services data" box there.
