It's Opera 39 for Linux. Can't find the category for that.

How do I do that?

And how do I get rid of the side bar for bookmarks, settings etc...?

Not having a menu bar is inconvenient.
It also won't let me adjust the number of speeddial columns.

I was trying to export my bokmarks and so far have only found the import function. So that's also gone it seems.
I cannot set a proxy either as Opera claims it uses the global proxy settings (which do not exist).

Opera has really gone down the drain. Been using it for years but that's a divorce now- whether it's for Windows or for nix.

You don't, Opera doesn't have a menu bar.

It's Opera 39 for Linux

This is the 'Opera for Windows' forum.

Can't find the category for that.

Really? It's together with 'Opera for Windows' and 'Opera for Mac' ones.

And how do I get rid of the side bar for bookmarks, settings etc...?

Uncheck the ones you don't want in the start page settings.
