Opera 12.16 vertical tab bar positioning

Hello,
I'm trying to make opera conserving as much space as possible. I.e. to make tabs aligned with "Opera menu" button. After about 3 hours of extreme googling I give up.

Could somebody please lend me a helping hand and tell what should I change to get something like that:

I did it on my laptop a few years ago and I now i can't recreate it on PC. I believe it's something in about:config, but I tried literally everything with height, width, align, bar, menu, placement, space, size, etc. for no effect.

And for the record: skin is not the issue here - this is "netbook glass minimal" on both images. And also opera can't be in fullscreen mode to see an impact.

Set to zero:
