<![CDATA[Opera 36 beta released with a new tab switcher!]]>Hey, folks!
We are happy to announce the release of Opera 36 beta.

This version includes the new tab switcher that has been in the works for quite some time. It features a modern, new look and a better underlying structure to allow optimized resource management. We are still working on perfecting it, but we couldn't wait to share it with you. Please have a look and give us feedback!

In addition to this, we are also making progressive web apps easier to find on the web. If you visit a certain site frequently, and it is served over HTTPS, has a manifest, is available offline, etc., we show a prompt suggesting that you add the web app in question to your home screen. If you want a list of web apps, you can check out https://operasoftware.github.io/pwa-list/.

If you are interested in controlling your Bluetooth devices, you will be glad to know that we are experimenting with Web Bluetooth in the beta. For more information please check the specification https://webbluetoothcg.github.io/web-bluetooth/. Here is a demo where we control BB-8 from Star Wars https://twitter.com/brucel/status/701776216928493568. If you are interested in how this was made, please check out the source code on https://github.com/operasoftware/bb8. This feature is not enabled by default; you have to go to opera://flags if you want to enable it.

We have heard your complaints about the pull-to-refresh feature. This feature is still enabled by default, but we have added a flag in opera://flags that you can toggle if you want to disable it.

This release includes the following changes:

  • New fresh tab switcher
  • Web apps discoverability
  • Web Bluetooth experiment
  • A Chromium upgrade to version 49
  • Various UI, stability and usability improvements

The update has been pushed to Google Play and should be available very soon. Please download Opera 36 beta for Android and leave us your feedback. We hope you like it!

AFAIK the ad blocker on Mini works server side.

Sometimes it stuck.
So add a option for sync bookmarks manually.

I can't see the logic, as Chrome's tab switcher is much more terrible. As I said in the stable version thread the new Opera tab switcher makes almost no difference here in regards to the position the thumbnails are displayed - I don't need to reach the top of the screen to select them - unless your device has a much bigger size/resolution that makes them appear somewhere else farther(?).

"W space hitler" to search wikipedia for hitler for example. It's a lot more efficient than the current dropdown menu to chose serch engines

I think the old tab switcher in classic layout was better. Thanks for giving us the option to use the old one.

Hi,

I've been a faithful user of Opera on my phone for the last two years. The main reason I love opera is how lightweight it is, how the textwrapping actually works and how the tab managing isn't horrible.

Or, I should say WASN'T horrible now since the last update change tab handling to the exact horrible system other apps use. Please consider rolling back this terrible 'improvement' because in this case I might as well switch to chrome. The beauty of Opera was that I didn't need to reach across half my screen to select or close tabs, now it's just like every browser out there.

I hope you will consider my opinion since I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

I use it mainly for beta test communities to test apps. But when I wanna become tester ans clickon "become tester" button what it does is that it redirects me to the same page in new opened window. Would e fine finally fix it!!! This glitch is here since I start using google+ comunities (2-3 years)...

There's issue with new tab switcher. Earlier one use to show page content, but this one show just white nothing. To show content of page in card of tab switcher you have to first view that page fullscreen and then when you open tab switcher it shows content. See:

I noticed the same issue, when you load up some webpages the tabs are white, however when you open all your tabs then they will show a preview picture.
Another issue im having is that there's a delay when opening the tab switcher, sometimes up to a second long. This is on a brand new galaxy s7, closing the tab switcher is instant, but opening it there's a delay.

I think the beta versions should have the beta logo instead of the full red one so those of us who have both installed won't get confused as the which version we are using

But their icons are different. The beta has the beta icon (half gray, half red) and stable has the full red icon.

What we are talking about is when the app is open. The "O" menu icon at the bottom right in the classic layout is the same in both versions
