<![CDATA[Can I use extensions on USB install]]>I have a stand-alone installment of Opera 12.02 and I try to install extensions. All installed extensions are showing up in SHIFT+CTRL+E, but they don't add buttons in the Opera window.

I have installed amongst others:

  • AdBlock (by adblockforopera)

  • External Scripts

  • Ghostery

  • WOT

All these are supposed to put a button beside the address field. I have used them before, in a normal installment of Opera.

I don't know which domain is responsible for this. Can I not keep js disabled globally, enable js for sites that needs js, and still use extensions? Perhaps by enabling js for some domain that extensions communicate with, but I don't know what domain that is.

Strange, very strange. As I have said, all three of the extensions I have installed are working no problem. I have even tried loads others over the course of using this version (12.14) and not had problems with them either. My previous extended use (USB) version was 11.64, and had no problem with extensions on that version.
Have you tried a clean USB install ?, though I have used this same Opera profile over many years, just copying the folder over to the new version as I upgrade.

I installed about seven versions of Opera as stand-alone installs. The versions don't interfer with one another. I guess this would be "clean" installs.

I just came to think about something. Do the extensions depend on certain domains to have javascript enabled? I have javascript globally disabled, I only enable it when a domain I visit needs it. But enabling js for the domain I do visit is not enough to make the extensions work, so perhaps js also must be enabled for some domain I don't visit.

The settings page for the extensions seems to be located at wuid-[long number here], but enabling js and everything else on that wuid "domain" doesn't help. By the way, all the settings pages are completely empty. I have now tried extensions on the stand-alone version of 12.16, same problem. No extensions will work.

I could install "NoAds Advanced" (it would not install in 12.02), but I can't get any of the extensions to work.

I use a portable version of 12.14 (exclusively) on Linux and Windows, just in different folders, and I have the same extensions installed in both of them, namely 'AdBlock', 'Slim scrollbar' and 'oClock' and they work fine, But I never bother with the toolbar icons.

Thank you for the reply. I depend on the toolbar buttons, that's where I control the extensions. But I don't just miss the buttons, the extensions don't work.
