<![CDATA[Videos won't play]]>I like to use a local news site for getting my news and they often have videos. Unfortunately something has changed recently (not sure if it was me upgrading Opera or the news site changing something, but now I can't watch any of their videos.

I see the preview graphic of the video, but if I go to play it (usually just mousing over the video would normally start it playing) the preview graphic changes to say:

This video is either not available or not supported in this browser
Error code MEDIA_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED
Technical details:
The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.

At first I thought the site was using an unsupported codec, as I remember there were competing codecs for HTML 5 video and certain browsers supported certain codecs and no one could agree on what the standard should be, but these videos play ok in Chrome and since Chrome and Opera now use the same engine I thought they should support the same video codecs (or am I wrong on that point?)

I'm using Opera 33.0.1990.115

I was getting an error message about the Widevine Content Decryption Module and to go to opera://plugins and to make sure it was enabled - it was, so I tried clearing the browsing data and a few more things. I don't know what went wrong because it was working fine a couple of months ago.

Eventually I contacted Amazon Prime which was a complete waste of time. I didn't catch the man's name but he didn't seem to be able to grasp what my problem was even though I told him about the error message about the Widevine Content Decryption Module and that I was getting error 7235 so he kept me on hold for 5 minutes and then told me it was a problem with the Widevine Content Decryption Module, I pointed out that I'd already mentioned that. His "solution" was for me to use Google Chrome browser - I will not use any software by Google after my experiences with their Graphics Program; Picarso (I'll spare you all the details).

I was prepared to cancel my Amazon Prime subscription, mainly because they no longer support my Smart TV Box (It's a Samsung BD-D8500M - am I now supposed to throw it in the dustbin?). If I can't play the videos that I'm paying money for every month there's no point in continuing with it.

After some procrastination; I decided to uninstall Adobe Flash player then download it again and reinstall it. I rebooted, went back to Amazon Prime and did a quick check by watching the trailer to "The Great Gatsby" - and it played fine (it didn't previously).

I also had a problem with a video on Facebook; the video was there and the sound played through my PC speakers but not through the HDMI lead and on the TV's speakers but that now seems to have sorted itself out with reinstalling Adobe Flashplayer.

I still have a problem with getting the BBC's Radio Player to work - it worked in the past but not now (I hoped that reinstalling Adobe would have fixed it).

Clean Opera's caches with it, or manually clear them. Also clear Opera's Media Cache, Application Cache and GPUCache. Latest CCleaner cleans Media- and GPUCache. I think you have to manually clear Application Cache.

Clearing the caches is just troubleshooting and cannot tell for sure, if it helps.

General- and Media Cache are located in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Opera Software\Opera Stable

Other caches are located in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable

Occasionally stuff.co.nz will put up embedded Youtube videos, and they work ok.

It's probably using a different codec or even flash.

Why the url is different? Have you tried the same video (https://assets.stuff.co.nz/video/production/1451429022625-darts best.mp4)?

I get the same thing with that URL too.

Just that Opera can't open the video file.
What happen if you try to open the link of the video in a new tab?

I forgot to mention that the videos play ok in IE 11.

There might be something changed in opera://flags/ You can try reset all options to default values. There's a button for that in the right upper corner.
Also, you can try disabling all the browser add-ons/extensions, such as ad-blockers etc.

I tried resetting the flags back to default, but that didn't help. I also tried turning off my ad-blocker but that too didn't help.

Chrome doesn't rely on the OS to play videos, it uses its own library afaik.

I guess in these "new and shiny" Windowses some mediapacks are missing. Or at least...
Try comparing those packs and stuff on both systems. Perhaps you might need to find that missing gear somehow...
You said "won't play": what does it show instead? Do you have an active frame/object there? Is there any context menu available in that area? Does it say something? Same stuff or varies?

This is what I see when the page with a video loads, without me having clicked on anything to make the video play:

Do you have turbo or/and "click to play" enabled by chance?

Turbo is turned off. Click to Play is also off (it's set to "Run all plug-in content (recommended)").

No, the one that plays videos ok is still running Windows XP, the one that won't play videos is running Windows 7. It's only one site that I've found that it won't play videos on, and that's stuff.co.nz

I tried your link and the videos, initially, would not play. I remembered Opera Turbo was enabled. After disabling, the videos played normally. There are other videos that will not play nice with Opera, turning off turbo just happened to work here.

I checked and I don't have Opera Turbo turned on. Just to be sure I turned it on and then back off, the videos still won't play.
