<![CDATA[How do I remove the white banners from the speed dial icons]]>In older versions of opera the banners which state what the speed dial icon's title is was transparent, now in opera 31, it is white and I want it to be transparent again. In one of the more recent versions I could go to this page: opera://flags/#experimental-start-page and disable the white flags so they would be transparent, but I can no longer do this. Does anyone know how to do this in this latest release?

Secondly is there an easy way to disable the opera autoupdater?

They had warning. That fact they had to enable the old speed dial via a flag was a clue.

Download the version of Opera you want http://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/ Disconnect your internet.

Find the shortcut for Opera. In properties and in the target add a space after the ending quote and add:

--disable-update

Reconnect your internet. Auto update is now turned off. You can confirm this in the opera:about page. Now you can update Opera when you want, but you will have to install the updates manually or just turn off auto update :).

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera\launcher.exe" --disable-update

(1) Disconnected my network so I was offline

(2) Installed Opera 30

(3) Went to the folder C:\Program Files\Opera

(4) Searched for the file opera_autoupdate.exe

(5) Renamed it to (for example) opera_autopdate.exe.old

If you then restart Opera and go to the menu option "About Opera" you will see that the line "Version: 30.0.1835.125" now has the message "An error occurred while checking for updates"

I found a download for Opera 30 via Google, so it was just a case of uninstalling Opera 31, reinstalling Opera 30 - and of course blocking Opera's auto update (essential!).

And how do you do this? Last time I checked, I couldn't find how to block auto-update. Or I would have kept a previous version! Thanks in advance for your solution.

I spent so much time organising my speed dial... Thank you Opera for ruining it for me! Instead of useful thumbnails of the pages I want to see.... I get 112 thumbnails of the pretty title of the page. How will that ever be useful to anyone in the world?
Anyone know how to roll back to opera 30? if not.... looks like I'm heading to www.vivaldi.com

I'd like to be able to choose if and when updating Opera, and the new Speed Dial is ugly IMNSHO.
I tried Firefox, but the speed dial page is less practical, and the add-on I found for it also auto-updates (and systematically erases my configuration).

Are all developers so convinced that we users are too stupid to be authorized to customize our interfaces?

I think I'll swap to some other browser unless someone can provide some kind of solution to the latest "fuck you" from opera devs, can't stand this anymore...

By the way, any suggestions for an alternative browser that is more customize-friendly like old Opera was? Don't really like Chrome and it seems every major browser is a cheap chrome clone nowadays :(.
