<![CDATA[Opera Mini 8.1 for Windows Phone]]>Hello, all!

I would like to inform you that today we released a new update to Opera Mini on Windows Phone. The exact version number is 8.1.0.118 and here's the new stuff you can find in it:

  • Private mode
  • Background theme switching
  • An option to prevent loading images
  • A live tile on your phone's Start screen that shows your data savings
  • Support for new languages: German, Italian, French and Polish

  • [WP-1346] - String for private tabs are cut off in Spanish (and wrong size)
  • [WP-1349] - The green setting switches has the wrong shade of green

  • [WP-1354] - New translations are not displayed
  • [WP-1368] - Opening tabs in foreground spoils browser
  • [WP-1335] - Improve backgrounds for lower memory usage and quicker operation

Yes, they are different products as well as Mini for IOS is different from both.

This version of Opera mini on this phone is incomplete at best. Nothing like the installation on my Android phone.

Where is the Opera button on the lower right side which has a simple button within to shut down the app as you would a program on a laptop? Forget about all the other options within that menu area.

I was going to describe the differences but what's the point? You already know it is not the same and it's annoying.

I only installed it to save the data downloaded so that supposedly is working according to the app's report.

Opera has recently added a new level of compression to its Mini browser for iOS and Android. The compression level is less severe than their Extreme version, meaning that lay-out and rendering is better preserved.

Christian Uribe, Opera Mini product manager notes:

“With the rise of better smartphones and better network conditions our users now want the option to have a less aggressive data compression mode so they can experience the full internet when network conditions allow for it.” That change has not percolated to the Windows Phone version of their app yet, but it seems it will hitting the Windows Phone Store soon.

The Android version has also added a new user interface for saved pages and bookmarks, improved handling of large downloads, an overhauled tab switch, private browsing mode, customisable thumb-friendly layout scalable for different screen sizes, improved discover news feed and the a new data counter to monitor savings made, many features we hope will also be coming to Windows Phone.

If you take Opera for other OSs as a basis, sync may take another year to come.

No bookmarks sync (disappointed). Rated for 1 star, since it's pretty much useless.

  • If you go to speed dial after visiting a website and then trying to load another website Opera loads the previous page again. But it loads the page which you want after it.
  • Opera uses too much CPU and overheats my phone. I mean it uses more than it supposed to. Or its just my phone?

    why is that windows opera product development team needs 11 months to give book mark sycronisation

    Opera for other OSs, mobile and desktop, (also) took a lomg time to have synchronization.
