If auto-update is enabled (enabled in Google Play app) it will download updates for you. The only exception is if we've added any new permissions to Opera. Then you would have to update manually since you would need to confirm the new permissions.

If you have installed it from Play Store and have enabled automatic updates for your installed apps then Opera will be updated automatically.
Don't know about others types of installations.

If auto-update feature is enabled on GP and of course that implies all apps automatic updates, something like x10 updates for text to speech app on a daily basis and Android is up to date. Oh yeah!
