it's only for certain websites (?) and sometimes the freezing is varying:

sometimes will freeze completely but i can open more tabs (no response visually though but i can hear the opening tab sfx and likewise i can hear it close too if i manage to click somewhere and close the tab)
the same situation as above but the entire browser is frozen
will only "freeze" sometimes but then proceeds to load things very very very slowly if at all

i haven't added or changed any extensions and the only thing that's been changed was updating the browser

Sometimes stream stops for 1-2s and for next 1-2s is trying to catch up original speed. I can understand opera gx have much better resorse menagment then chrome or other browsers but if that means all streaming sites have to stutter i won't be using opera any more. But hey maybe there is some solution for that. Let me know please.

Like everyone else on here. Opera is unusable.

When the browser has opened, you do your first click, it then freezes and says "Opera is not responding", and then you have to forcibly close the program down.

This is the first time I have installed it in 6 months as windows 10 deleted it when there was a big update.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Opera 3 times now and it still locks up.

What I did notice was, it took a good half hour to lock the first time as I was trying to sync and forgotten my password and had to do a password reset. It allowed me to do that and then I noticed all my speed dials had gone from when I last used it 6 months ago on a previous version.

It sounds like a memory issue here.

What gives?
Come on Opera, get it sorted, you're losing a customer here and probably more.

And yes on Edge this has never happened before and the CPU is usually at 4-5% but when the screen goes black I've seen it spike to 40-60% CPU. I've ruled out a RAM issue and when this happens I could have only 1 tab open and it would still manage to freeze up.
