Use "webnavigation" and direct it to the extension page...
Were you able to get this to work? chrome.webNavigation.onBeforeNavigate doesn't fire when a new start page tab is opened with ctrl + t or the + button on the tab bar. If you navigate from another page view, the start page button or entering the URL, it'll fire though. So, it'll only work part of the time.
chrome.webRequest.onBeforeRequest doesn't fire for the startpage, so you can't block it and then use redirectUrl with it.
This method works, but it has a few downsides. The history issue could probably be fixed with the history api though, but haven't tried.
As far as I know, all extensions in Opera's add-ons store are manually reviewed before being allowed there, so most probably all of them - there may be a few exceptions, of course - are following the guides.
See this FYI from Opera about the long approval time. Hopefully Opera will sort that out. https://forums.opera.com/post/128215
Is this the Firefox version you're talking about? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-youtube-video-download/
If so, you can keep an eye out in https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions for the Chrome version, which you can install in Opera using the method I mentioned previously. I don't see it in the Chrome web store yet, so have the FYI you when it's ready.
@edsonmartim I just received an email from the add-ons developer and got the following response:
I had submitted the update for Opera but their moderation has neither accepted or denied the submission !!!
What does it take for the updates to be performed and the icon to work again on the Youtube site using the Opera browser?
@commander238 It looks like to me that opera devs might have removed the add on for some reason. Either that or the extenison's dev requested it be removed. Either that or whoever typed the link made an error somewhere. That seems the most logical reason to me. A 404 error usually means that content attached to the link has been removed or the link was typed wrong when creating the page.
