Turbo is disabled by default, you enable/disable it by clicking on Menu > Opera Turbo.

Does turbo mode submit everything to opera's own servers?

Only non-secure traffic goes through Opera servers.

I need the socks proxy to bypass firewall restrictions. I'm using Opera 38.0.2220.41 (Windows 8 x64) with hpsockd (socks proxy) on a Debian Jessie. The setup is working just fine.

I've also enabled Opera Turbo since my connection is very slow. However, I have no idea if Opera Turbo is working. How do I find out if Opera Turbo is working on Windows? I can't seem to find any option/extension that will give me such information.

Is it even possible to conjugate Opera Turbo and a socks proxy? The socks proxy is not redirecting anywhere, it's just allowing access through the firewall. Therefore, it should be possible to conjugate with Opera Turbo.

If this setup does not work: Opera Turbo + socks configuration through extension.... would it work if I proxified the Opera binary? This way Opera wouldn't have any proxy configured but it would be piped through socks anyway. What do you think? Option number 1 (Opera Turbo + socks configuration) is the simplest. Option number 2 using proxifier is convoluted. How do I find out it Opera Turbo is working? Is there any setup that would work with socks and Opera Turbo?

I don't know if they actually say Turbo somewhere (though I could check when I get home, there are several websites that will show you your own headers), but I do know they clearly identify themselves as being for a proxy of some kind.

Though alternatively you could use HTTPS, Turbo does not handle any secure traffic.

Mind you, there's no comparable answer for people using Opera Mini on a mobile device. While it is easy to identify Mini users, Mini always uses the proxy. You should try to detect browsers that won't support your site and give those people something useful. Some of the devices that Mini runs on can't support a full browser; you may not be able to tell them to use something else - at least, until they can find a real computer to use.

If your site connection is via HTTPS Turbo/Off-road's servers won't be enabled on it. AFAIK it won't touch PNG images too.

There's no point on imposing that limitation to the visitors of your site, as Turbo/Off-road won't change any code nor request the mobile version of it, only save data by compressing it.
